ZF to open third e-mobility plant in China

ZF has commenced construction of a new e-mobility plant in Shenyang, China, following an investment of over RMB 1 billion (c. €130 million).

The plant, located on a 2.47 acre site, is set to employ 900 people and will focus on the production of electric axle drives.

Operation is expected to begin from March 2025, expanding ZF’s OEM customer base and increasing the company’s e-mobility production capacity.

It will be ZF’s third e-mobility plant to open in China since 2021.

The products to be launched at the new plant are based on ZF’s modular kit electric drive platform and cover both front and rear axles, including motors, power electronics and reducers.

Thanks to the modular design, it can meet power requirements from 100 kW to 300 kW and offers the flexibility to switch between synchronous and asynchronous motors depending on the OEM’s requirements for primary and auxiliary drives.

The motor features a hairpin winding for higher power and torque density, higher efficiency and optimised power output.

The power electronics incorporates ZF’s High 2.0 SiC technology and is continuously upgraded on the 800-volt platform, enhancing function safety while optimising cost.

The reducer design has also been improved to ensure optimum efficiency and outstanding NVH performance.
