ZF and BMW sign multi-billion euro transmission deal

ZF has signed a long-term supply agreement with BMW Group for the supply and continued development of the eight-speed automatic transmission (8HP).

The contract runs until the late 2030s and, according to ZF, is worth “several billion euros”.

As part of the partnership, ZF said the 8HP transmission kit will be continuously developed to provide customers with “the most powerful and efficient transmission that meets the requirements of future drive concepts”.

“Together with BMW, we are sending a strong signal for innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in an industry undergoing dynamic change,” said Mathias Miedreich, CEO of ZF.

“This agreement highlights the strategic importance of our eight-speed automatic transmission as a key technology for the transformation of drive systems,” he added.
