<\/p>\nPolestar has been denied authorisation to sell its electric vehicles in the United States from model year 2027 onwards, following a decision from the US Department of Commerce\u2019s Bureau of Industry and Security.<\/p>\n
The ban relates to the USA’s current ‘Connected Vehicle Rule’, which prohibits the import and sale of vehicles with software from China and Russia.<\/p>\n
The rule was signed off by then US President Joe Biden in January 2025, just before leaving office.<\/p>\n

Polestar, which is majority-owned by China\u2019s Geely, said it will continue to sell existing Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 stock in the US and to support customers through its service network.<\/p>\n
Polestar said 94 per cent of its retail sales volumes in the first quarter of 2026 originated from markets outside the United States.<\/p>\n
Other leading Chinese automakers such as BYD, Xpeng, NIO and Chery, are already absent from the US market.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
