{"id":79907,"date":"2026-06-26T10:01:35","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T09:01:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.autotrade.ie\/?p=79907"},"modified":"2026-06-26T10:01:35","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T09:01:35","slug":"hgv-battery-swapping-hubs-coming-to-the-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.autotrade.ie\/index.php\/hgv-battery-swapping-hubs-coming-to-the-uk\/79907","title":{"rendered":"HGV battery-swapping hubs coming to the UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Octopus Energy and CATL have announced a new joint venture (JV) to create a network of battery-swapping hubs covering the UK and Europe.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The hubs will allow electric HGVs to replace depleted batteries in minutes, removing long charge times and eliminating one of the biggest barriers to decarbonising heavy transport.<\/p>\n<p>The initial UK mega hubs are expected to open in 2027, with about 30 planned by 2035. Every hub will be capable of servicing thousands of trucks per day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-49834\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cvworkshop.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/catl-octopus-energy-batteriewechsel-station-1400x933-1-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"678\" height=\"452\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once fully operational, the partners believe the network could support 300,000 electric trucks and unlock more than \u00a330 billion of private investment.<\/p>\n<p>This JV \u2013 called Swaptopus \u2013 combines CATL\u2019s battery swapping-station knowledge, already deployed at scale across China, with the energy supply experience of Octopus.<\/p>\n<p>The two companies are also looking at options to scale Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology across CATL\u2019s global network of automotive partners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Octopus Energy and CATL have announced a new joint venture (JV) to create a network of battery-swapping hubs covering the UK and Europe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":18,"featured_media":79908,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_exactmetrics_skip_tracking":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_active":false,"_exactmetrics_sitenote_note":"","_exactmetrics_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-79907","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","cat-1-id","has_thumb"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.5 -
