Amazon is set to take delivery of almost 5,000 fully-electric vans from Mercedes-Benz, which will be the retail giant’s largest such deployment in Europe.<\/p>\n

The eSprinter and eVito vans will join Amazon’s transportation network over the coming months, and will be divided amongst five countries including Austria, France, Germany, Italy and the UK.<\/p>\n

This investment is part of Amazon’s goal to achieve net-zero carbon across its operations by 2040.<\/p>\n

The Mercedes-Benz vans will join thousands of zero-exhaust emission vehicles already deployed across Europe by Amazon, including electric vans, e-cargo bikes, e-mopeds, and pushcarts.<\/p>\n

Amazon says it has worked with Mercedes-Benz to customise the new vans based on learnings from its drivers and delivery partners. They will include enhanced features for driver safety and ergonomics, as well as for delivery efficiency, such as custom shelving for package organisation.<\/p>\n

The eSprinter and eVito vans for Amazon will be manufactured in Germany and Spain.<\/p>\n

Neil Emery, Amazon director of global fleet and product, said: \u201cThis deployment of nearly 5,000 electric delivery vans further underscores our work to reduce carbon emissions in our operations. From electric bikes to vans to trucks and infrastructure, we are well on our way to transforming our transportation network.<\/p>\n

“We look forward to continuing to work with Mercedes-Benz, other vehicle manufacturers, and policymakers to enable even faster electrification and decarbonisation across Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n
