{"id":57344,"date":"2021-04-22T16:50:07","date_gmt":"2021-04-22T15:50:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.autotrade.ie\/?p=57344"},"modified":"2021-04-22T17:07:24","modified_gmt":"2021-04-22T16:07:24","slug":"nissens-warns-of-faulty-thermal-expansion-valves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.autotrade.ie\/index.php\/nissens-warns-of-faulty-thermal-expansion-valves\/57344","title":{"rendered":"Nissens warns of faulty thermal expansion valves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Climate system specialist, Nissens Automotive, has warned that a faulty thermal expansion valve (TXV) will impact the air conditioning system\u2019s performance and the life of the compressor.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>A delay in the valve reaction or improper, unbalanced metering, along with the valve being stuck in an open or closed position, are among the most common faults of a malfunctioning TXV.<\/p>\n<p>These factors can also expose the AC compressor to excessive workloads, a shortage of lubrication or, conversely, flooding, leading to severe damage.<\/p>\n<p>Nissens says it is therefore important for technicians to understand the symptoms, to ensure they are in a position to make the correct AC system diagnosis, in order to affect the correct repair. This is why Nissens says it is dedicated to providing technicians with the technical knowledge to allow them to do so.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25090\" src=\"http:\/\/www.factorfocus.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/TXV-Group-FF_no-bck_005841.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1543\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>TXV Fault Guide (examples from Nissens)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Improper metering of the refrigerant flow<\/strong><br \/>\nImpaired metering failure often occurs in low-quality valves, high-mileage vehicles, through wear or by leaks within the power-sensing element of the valve, and improper setting of the valve&#8217;s superheat. It occurs when the valve&#8217;s primary control (power) element is out of the proper sensing and reaction settings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stuck valve<\/strong><br \/>\nMost commonly, the problem has a root cause in impurities and debris inside the\u00a0AC loop linked to the inappropriate use of additives for the AC system, a worn receiver-drier, particle formation after compressor seizure, or improper\/lack of flushing procedure.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the position where the valve is stuck, there are several outcome scenarios, including a limited flow of the refrigerant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Impurities and debris concentration inside the TXV<\/strong><br \/>\nAC system contamination, additives, a worn receiver-drier, particle formation following an AC compressor seizure, improper flushing &#8211; all of which may lead to inner valve blockages.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Severe AC compressor failure &gt; seizure<\/strong><br \/>\nImpaired lubrication caused by overheating, lubricant dilution or excessive impurities formation can all be linked to a faulty TXV.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional Tips<\/strong><br \/>\nAlways replace the TXV when undertaking AC compressor replacement as it is a relatively inexpensive add-on, which can prevent severe failures.
