However, although\u00a0they are\u00a0perishable and should be changed every 12 months, it\u2019s often something drivers forget to change before the NCT\/MOT.<\/p>\n<p>Trico says there are typical signs that wiper blades need to be replaced:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Streaking \u2013 when the blade doesn\u2019t completely clear the windscreen, leaving streaks of water or debris<\/li>\n<li>Chattering \u2013 when the blade doesn\u2019t move smoothly across the windscreen<\/li>\n<li>Smearing \u2013 when the debris or water is smeared across the windscreen, but not removed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While Trico still recommends that wiper blades are changed every 12 months regardless of their condition, it\u2019s vital that technicians ensure that the blades are in the best condition when leaving the\u00a0workshop, as it\u2019s such a crucial safety feature for drivers.<\/p>\n<p>Checking the wiper blades while doing the NCT\/MOT is a must, and even if there\u2019s damage that doesn\u2019t actually lead to a failure, it\u2019s still worth highlighting any concerns to the driver, and recommending prompt replacement before problems worsen.<\/p>\n<p>Trico group brand &amp; marketing manager (Europe), Sam Robinson,\u00a0said:\u00a0\u201cDrivers do not rush to a workshop for new wiper blades at the best of times, so,\u00a0during an\u00a0NCT\/MOT, technicians need to be proactive.
