<\/p>\nLaser Tools, sponsors of the BTCC motor racing team Laser Tools Racing, has now added football to its portfolio, with one striking difference \u2013 the team it’s sponsoring only appears in a critically-acclaimed graphic novel series.<\/p>\n
‘Rok of the Reds’, the story of the world\u2019s first alien footballer, was recently shortlisted for Teenage Book of the Year 2020 by the Scottish Book Trust.<\/p>\n

Created by comic writers John Wagner (Judge Dredd\/A History of Violence) and Alan Grant (Batman), and illustrated by 2000AD favourite Dan Cornwell, Rok of the Reds tells the story of an alien lord seeking refuge on Earth who falls in love with \u2018the beautiful game\u2019.<\/p>\n
Now, as Rok\u2019s second season begins in the new graphic novel Rok the God, Rok\u2019s team \u2013 Radford Reds \u2013 will be taking the field bearing their new Laser Tools logo.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a perfect brand for the team and looks just right on the shirts,\u201d Wagner said. \u201cAnd of course we\u2019re immensely grateful for a sponsor\u2019s support. Producing comic strip is expensive. It is heartening that a company like Laser Tools has seen enough value in what we\u2019re doing to get behind us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Wagner and Laser Tools Founder Martin Smith had gone to school together in Scotland but had not seen each other for more than 50 years. So when Smith turned up at a comic convention, listened to Wagner talk about the project and offered to back it, it was the perfect reunion.<\/p>\n
