The number of motoring offences in Northern Ireland has been steadily decreasing from 2011 (79,800) to 2019 (48,500) according to official figures released today by the Police Service of Northern Ireland<\/p>\n
However, May bucked the trend with a 60 per cent rise, up from 2,600 offences in April to 4,200 in May.
\nSpeeding offences more than doubled over the same period, from 520 to 1,060 with insurance offences rising from 571 to 759.<\/p>\n
The number of motoring offences for Northern Ireland has fallen from 51,000 to 44,700, a 12 per cent drop over the past year, with the most common offences being speeding and no insurance cover. <\/p>\n
Men were identified as committing 80 per cent of all motoring offences with those aged 30-49 making up the highest number of offenders \u2013 over half of this group were detected for mobile phone offences. <\/p>\n
All policing districts recorded falls in the number of motoring offences, with the exception of Mid- and East-Antrim, plus Antrim as well as Newtownabbey. Ards and North Down had the lowest rate of motoring offences at 122 per 100,000 population, while Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon had the highest at 404 per 100,000.<\/p>\n
