<\/p>\nA common concern for\u00a0motorists\u00a0when\u00a0driving\u00a0in wet\u00a0conditions is aquaplaning, when the car begins to\u00a0lose traction and\u00a0glide on the road\u00a0with the resulting loss of control, especially when on\u00a0fast roads such as\u00a0motorways and dual\u00a0carriageways.<\/p>\n
As a result, Hella, working in conjunction with Porsche, has put\u00a0its\u00a0wetness detection function into series production\u00a0and is\u00a0supporting the world premiere of \u2018Porsche WET-Mode\u2019. This detects moisture on the road surface and, as a preventive measure,\u00a0adjusts\u00a0the driving systems\u00a0accordingly\u00a0to ensure\u00a0a\u00a0more stable driving platform.<\/p>\n
For this wetness detection, a\u00a0structural\u00a0health and\u00a0knock\u00a0emission (SHAKE) sensor from Hella has been incorporated into\u00a0the front wheel arch liners on the new Porsche 911, which\u00a0identifies the condition of the road and detects\u00a0if there is\u00a0a film of water on the surface and if the systems need to adjust to ensure the vehicle is safe.<\/p>\n

As a market leader in the field of\u00a0advanced\u00a0driver assistance systems\u00a0(ADAS),\u00a0Hella has further developed SHAKE technology. This supplements existing assistance and safety systems,\u00a0which means\u00a0it allows the vehicle not only to\u00a0“see”\u00a0its surroundings via radar and camera systems, but to also\u00a0“feel”\u00a0them, covering the invisible areas\u00a0ADAS\u00a0does not detect. Using a piezoelectric element, the SHAKE sensor detects vibrations and airborne noise from water droplets swirled up in the air and determines the degree of wetness between tyre and road.<\/p>\n
So, if the system detects a wet road, the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and Porsche Traction Management (PTM)\u00a0will be preconditioned,\u00a0the driver\u00a0will\u00a0receive a warning and the recommendation to switch to WET-Mode. Various systems,\u00a0such as the response behaviour of the power unit\u00a0will also\u00a0adapt to ensure maximum driving\u00a0stability.<\/p>\n
In addition to the SHAKE sensor, Hella has also\u00a0supplied\u00a0a number of other products for this vehicle,\u00a0including\u00a0interior lamps, body control modules and accelerator pedal\u00a0sensors\u00a0to the Porsche 911, which\u00a0has been available to customers\u00a0in Europe\u00a0since spring 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
