Continental, the international automotive \u2028system supplier, is presenting the latest stage of development of its fuel sensor solutions at the IAA Truck Show.
\nCommercial vehicles\u2028face many challenges as they are expected to have a low carbon footprint and ever lower emission levels. At the same time rising fuel \u2028prices necessitate increased truck fuel economy.
\nHowever, the list of \u2028challenges continues: Long-haul truck engines, for instance, are exposed to a growing number of changing blends of diesel and biofuels, which influence not only the combustion but also the post injection strategy required for exhaust gas aftertreatment.
\nDepending on the region, the fuel can be contaminated by unwanted \u2028substances as well. An overly high sulphur content, for instance, can \u2028damage the engine. This creates new needs in the market.
\n\u201cThere is an increasing \u2028demand for sophisticated truck engines around the globe,\u201d says \u2028Mathias Miedreich, head of the Exhaust & Emission Sensors segment \u2028within the Continental Business Unit Sensors & Actuators.
\n\u201cThe properties of fuel can have great influence on the efficiency, \u2028emission level, and also the durability of modern diesel engines. \u2028Therefore we see a huge demand for solutions to detect important \u2028fuel quality parameters. Our new products address this issue. \u2028Detecting sulphur in the fuel is probably the most urgent \u2028requirement.\u201d
\nAfter successfully concluding the four year Euripides \u2028research project, which ended in 2011, Continental has now provided \u2028product samples of its new Fuel Quality Sensor to several truck \u2028OEMs for testing and vehicle integration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
