{"id":13559,"date":"2014-03-06T14:09:40","date_gmt":"2014-03-06T13:09:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.autotrade.ie\/?p=13559"},"modified":"2014-03-06T16:49:28","modified_gmt":"2014-03-06T15:49:28","slug":"new-car-sales-up-28-per-cent-is-driving-employment-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.autotrade.ie\/index.php\/new-car-sales-up-28-per-cent-is-driving-employment-growth\/13559","title":{"rendered":"New car sales up 28 per cent is driving employment growth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Figures released this week, by the SIMI (Society of the Irish Motor Industry) show\u00a0that so far this year, new car sales are up by 28 per cent The\u00a0confidence\u00a0evident in\u00a0January has continued into February with a 21 per cent increase in car sales.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0light commercial vehicle market, which is a good sign of activity in\u00a0the SME sector, saw an increase in sales of 41 per cent in February\u00a0with sales\u00a0of Heavy Goods Vehicles, often a barometer of activity in the wider\u00a0Economy, seeing a 68 per cent increase.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recovery is delivering new auto industry jobs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the end of last year, there was a clear\u00a0indication of recovery in the sector when the jobs figures from the CSO showed 1,000 more\u00a0people working in the Motor Industry now compared to the middle of 2013. &#8220;This trend is continuing and developing further over the last two months,\u201d according to industry recruitment specialist, RecruitAuto.ie.<\/p>\n<p>Alan Nolan, SIMI Director General also confirmed this saying:\u00a0\u201cAs\u00a0a result, employment in the sector has also been stabilising and\u00a0February saw the formation of 37 new companies in the Motor\u00a0Industry in\u00a0February.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, figures in the Insolvency Journal show the national trend for company insolvencies over the past three years, shows a considerable drop last year compared to the previous two years. Strangely, in the auto industry there was an increase last year on the 2012 figure, which had fallen dramatically over the 2011.
