Volvo becomes SUV-only brand in the UK

Volvo has become an SUV-only brand in the UK, after it confirmed that it has stopped taking orders for its S60, V60 and V90 models there.

The Swedish automaker said the decision was made due to a drop in sales for its saloon and estate models in the UK, as demand for its existing SUV line-up continues to grow.

“Appetite for our saloon and estate models has fallen to very low levels in the UK, which has led to our decision to remove these models from sale in the UK,” Volvo Cars UK said in a statement.

However, it added that saloon and estate models will still be available to police forces and other emergency services in the UK.

The move to discontinue saloon and estate models will only apply to the UK market, with Volvo Cars Ireland confirming that Volvo’s S- and V- badged models will continue to be produced and remain available here and in other markets.

The Volvo V60 Recharge will continue to be sold in Ireland.
