UK prepares for an extra 1.7 million MOT’s due in October
Be prepared is the key message from NTK, the vehicle electronics arm of NGK Spark Plugs, as demand for MOT’s is set to double this autumn with an additional 1.7m due in October alone in the UK.

Motorists in the UK were granted Covid-19 led MOT exemptions from 30th March until 1st August with the exemptions beginning to expire this autumn which is already a busy time for MOT testing.
Garages and MOT specialists are being encouraged to book vehicles in early for their MOT’s in order to avoid disappointment and to ensure they keep their customers on the road.
Throughout September and October NGK have increased the level of reward points for Lambda Sensors through it’s market leading garage reward programme, BoxClever from 100 to 1,000 points per sensor! Garages are encouraged to insist on NTK Lambda Sensors to ensure they benefit from the temporary increase in points.
Mark Hallam, Marketing Manager, NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, said: “Demand for MOT’s this autumn is unprecedented”
“It is estimated that over 140,000 vehicles will fail the emissions element of the MOT test in October alone. We anticipate an increase in demand for MOT’s and a subsequent increase in demand for our Lambda Sensors this autumn. Now’s the time to turn to the World’s No.1 in engine sensors. NTK.”
NGK is the world’s largest manufacturer of Lambda sensors under the NTK brand and, as an OE supplier to many of the world’s leading vehicle manufacturers (VMs), supplies the same components to the UK automotive aftermarket.
NGK says the experience it has in supplying the VMs worldwide allows it to offer exactly the right sensor for every vehicle application. The company says distributors should encourage garages to always go with a bespoke OE-quality Lambda sensor and steer well clear of ‘universal sensors.’
