Triska Energy launches Shell Helix Hybrid to Irish market

Triska Energy, the exclusive distributor for Shell Lubricants in Ireland and Northern Ireland, has introduced Shell Helix Hybrid 0W20 to the Irish market.

Electric and hybrid-electric vehicles are expected to play an increasingly important role in transporting people and products, and they are one way to meet the growing demand for low-carbon transport.

Shell is providing a range of electric mobility solutions to its customers – from power generation, to charging and with a range of specialised lubricants and fluids.

The lubrication requirements for hybrid engines are different to those for standard internal combustion engines:

  • More starts and stops owing to the power shifts between the electric motor and the combustion engine.
  • Lower working temperatures because of shorter periods of engine operation.
  • Lower oil temperatures due to the extended periods when the engine is not in use.

Shell Helix Hybrid is a high-performance engine oil based on the firm’s innovative Shell PurePlus Technology, a crystal-clear base oil made from natural gas that is 99.5 per cent pure.

It has been specially designed to provide protection and greater fuel economy for hybrid-electric vehicles and latest turbocharged gasoline direct-injection engines (GDI). It exceeds the requirements of API SN PLUS/SN and ILSAC GF-5: the major industrial standards required by hybrid engines.

Compared with traditional Group II and Group III base oils made from crude oils, Shell PurePlus technology provides enhanced viscosity, friction and volatility performance.

Shell claims its new product is the first synthetic motor oil designed from natural gas to provide long lasting engine performance.
