Three Dublin blackspots to get CCTV to catch drivers braking lights

Cameras will be installed in three Dublin blackspots to catch motorists breaking red lights.

The move comes after a 2015 pilot scheme monitoring a section of the Luas red line caught 1,300 drivers ignoring signals at one junction in the capital.

Blackhall Place, Con Colbert Road and Queen Street will now see CCTV in operation on a full-time basis.

AA Ireland’s Director of Consumer Affairs Conor Faughnan backs the decision and said that running red lights “really isn’t defensible”.
