Tesla plans to build Europe’s biggest car plant
Tesla is seeking approval from German local authorities to double the production capacity of its factory near Berlin, turning it into Europe’s biggest car plant.
The ambition is to build one million cars each year plus 100 gigawatt hours of battery production at the vastly revised German plant.
If Tesla’s plans materialise, the planned enhanced Berlin mega factory would produce more cars than the Volkswagen Group does at its giant Wolfsburg complex, which has a maximum capacity of circa 800,000 units.
If the long delays experienced by Tesla in getting the existing Berlin factory up in running due to environmental impacts and high water usage objections by local people, this new planning application could take a long time, if it succeeds at all.
