Nissan reveals solar-powered Ariya concept

Nissan has revealed a solar‑powered Ariya concept car, which features 3.8m² of high‑efficiency photovoltaic panels integrated into the bonnet, roof, and tailgate.

These polymer and glass-based solar panels convert sunlight into DC power, managed through an advanced controller designed to optimise energy use and reduce reliance on external charging infrastructure.

In ideal conditions, Nissan claims the system could deliver more than 20km of additional range per day.

The project is the work between Nissan engineers in Dubai and Barcelona, and Dutch solar‑mobility firm Lightyear, who supplied the solar panel technology.

A spokesperson for Nissan said the concept “is not just a technical milestone; it’s a vision of how Nissan intends to lead the next phase of electric mobility”.
