Mercedes-Benz Vans begins VLE production in Spain

Mercedes-Benz Vans has commenced series production of the electric VLE at its Vitoria plant in Spain.

The new VLE is the first Mercedes-Benz vehicle to be based on the new modular Van Architecture, which will underpin the brand’s entire van portfolio.

The VLE offers up to eight seats and a claimed range of over 700 km, with 800V technology and ultra-fast charging.

Mercedes-Benz said extensive investments in bodyshop, paint shop and assembly areas have produced a flexible, multi-powertrain production line at Vitoria, with the V-Class, Vito and eVito continuing throughout the transformation.

The plant has operated carbon-neutral on balance since 2022, using renewable electricity, geothermal energy and waste heat, and approximately 5,000 employees completed more than 160 training programmes to prepare for the ramp-up.
