Keep your cool this summer with Mahle’s ArcticPRO A/C Service Units

As temperatures rise and demand for vehicle air conditioning servicing surges, workshops across Ireland are entering one of their most commercially important seasonal peaks. For many garages, A/C servicing is no longer a secondary add-on, but a core revenue stream, particularly as drivers become more aware of system performance, cabin comfort and air quality.

Against this backdrop, Mahle is reminding workshops that its ArcticPRO® range of A/C service units delivers the precision, efficiency and reliability needed to meet growing demand while maximising workshop productivity.

Modern air conditioning systems are becoming increasingly complex, especially with the rise of hybrid and electric vehicles, where thermal management plays a critical role not just in comfort, but in battery performance and vehicle efficiency. This shift is changing how workshops approach A/C servicing, placing greater emphasis on accuracy, safety and system-specific expertise.

Mahle’s ArcticPRO® range has been developed with these evolving requirements in mind. Designed for ease of use and high performance, the units offer fully automated servicing for both R134a and R1234yf refrigerants, covering a wide spectrum of vehicles including passenger cars, commercial vehicles, agricultural machinery and off-highway equipment.

This breadth of application is increasingly important as many workshops now service mixed vehicle parc, where internal combustion engine vehicles sit alongside hybrids and EVs. Having a single solution that can handle this diversity efficiently is becoming a key operational advantage.

The ArcticPRO® range includes four machines, each available for R134a or R1234yf, allowing workshops to select a model that matches both their workload and investment level. Entry-level units such as the ACX 310 and ACX 410 provide a compact and mobile solution, weighing just 65kg, making them ideal for smaller workshops or as a secondary unit to increase capacity during peak periods.

At the top end of the range, the ACX 380 and ACX 480 offer enhanced functionality, including dedicated circuits for POE oil and UV dye. This is particularly important for workshops regularly servicing hybrid and electric vehicles, where cross-contamination must be avoided when alternating between different powertrain types.

Across the entire range, Mahle has focused on automation as a way to reduce technician workload while improving consistency. Once connected, the units automatically recover refrigerant, remove non-condensable gases, perform vacuum checks and recharge the system with the correct quantities of oil and refrigerant. An integrated vehicle database removes the need for manual input, helping to minimise errors and speed up the service process.

This level of automation is particularly valuable in today’s workshop environment, where technician shortages and increasing workloads are placing pressure on efficiency. By simplifying the A/C servicing process, ArcticPRO® allows less experienced technicians to carry out work confidently, freeing up skilled staff for more complex tasks.

An intuitive touchscreen interface further supports ease of use, guiding operators through each stage of the process. This not only reduces the risk of mistakes but also helps workshops maintain consistent service quality, which is essential for customer retention and repeat business.
Beyond ease of use, Mahle has also addressed one of the key cost considerations for workshops: maintenance.

The patented E3 fill process allows the air conditioning system to be filled independently of vehicle and ambient temperature, improving accuracy and reducing service variability.

The system’s E3 pump also performs an automated internal cleansing process, extending oil change intervals to up to 1,000 operating hours, a tenfold increase compared to conventional systems. This significantly reduces maintenance time and cost, while eliminating the need for annual oil changes.

Environmental considerations are also becoming increasingly important, both from a regulatory perspective and as part of wider sustainability goals within the aftermarket. ArcticPRO® addresses this through its E3 connect system, which enables the full recovery of refrigerant from hoses and service nozzles. This zero-loss approach prevents the release of harmful gases into the atmosphere while reducing refrigerant waste and associated costs.

Andy Lees, Head of Western Europe Mahle Lifecycle and Mobility, highlights the growing importance of advanced service equipment in this area.
“A high-quality air conditioning service machine such as our ArcticPRO® devices helps to automate and optimise repairs. This is becoming increasingly important as more and more vehicles are equipped with complex air conditioning systems,” he explains.

Looking ahead, the role of A/C servicing is only set to increase. As electrification continues, thermal management systems are becoming more sophisticated, with air conditioning playing a direct role in battery cooling and vehicle range. For workshops, this means investing in equipment that is not only capable today, but also ready for future vehicle technologies.

Models such as the ACX 380 and ACX 480 reflect this forward-thinking approach, offering compatibility with hybrid and EV servicing alongside traditional applications. Additional features such as remote diagnostics and integration with wider Mahle workshop solutions further enhance their long-term value.

Ultimately, the ArcticPRO® range is designed to help workshops turn seasonal demand into sustained profitability. By combining automation, efficiency and future-ready capability, it enables garages to increase throughput, reduce downtime and deliver consistent, high-quality service.

As customer expectations continue to rise and vehicle technology evolves, the importance of reliable, efficient A/C servicing will only grow. For workshops looking to stay competitive and capitalise on this demand, investing in the right equipment is a crucial step.

The ArcticPRO® range forms part of Mahle’s wider portfolio of workshop solutions, all aimed at helping technicians meet the challenges of modern vehicle servicing with confidence.
