Hengst focuses on transmission oil filters
Transmission oil lubricates gear flanks and bearing running surfaces, cools the entire system and protects it against wear and corrosion.
However, transmission oil also transmits the torque between the intermeshing gear flanks or serves as an auxiliary medium for the actuation of brake bands and clutches.
Foreign bodies, such as metallic abrasion, also accumulate in the transmission oil. Added to this are oxidation processes or thermal ageing of the lubricant (additive wear), which can change the friction coefficient of the transmission oil. Shifting problems in automatic transmissions can be the result.

The entry of radiator antifreeze into the transmission oil (through hairline cracks in the oil cooler) also has a strong negative influence on the friction properties.
Transmission oil filters protect the transmission from foreign bodies and chemical waste products. The design, filter medium and housing material of the transmission oil filters are coordinated by the manufacturers individually according to the transmission concept.
The filter media are made of paper, non-woven, glass fibre or a combination. The filters can be designed as spin-on filters for screwing on, as filter cartridges (both pressure filters) or as compact flat filters (suction filters).
Depending on the transmission, suction and/or pressure oil filters are used. Automatic transmissions are usually equipped with suction filters.
These are compact flat filters in an all-plastic housing located directly in the oil pan. To change a suction filter, the oil pan housing is opened from below.
Pressure filters are found in manual transmissions or in CVT or dual-clutch transmissions. They can also be used as a supplement to suction filters for high oil purity requirements.

Transmission oil change / Transmission oil flush
Most car manufacturers prescribe regular oil changes for automatic transmissions. In addition, a transmission oil flush is recommended, as this is the only way to remove any impurities and replace at least the majority of the transmission oil.
The important thing is that the vehicle and the transmission oil must be at operating temperature. If you want to be on the safe side, you should also have the control block cleaned.
This is the only way to ensure that the complete amount of transmission oil is replaced and that the complex mechanics function properly over the long term.
Hengst Filtration as OE series supplier for oil pans
Hengst is the supplier for the 3rd generation oil pan of the 8HP transmission (suction oil filtration). A fully integrated flat filter and a drain plug for easy servicing are installed in the oil pan.
As a result, the product meets the manufacturer’s high flatness and position tolerance requirements and offers improved low temperature compared to the competition.
The transmission oil pan with suction filtration is installed in all Audi all-wheel drive vehicles as well as in selected BMW models with automatic transmissions from the 3-series onwards.

MTF and ATF
The abbreviations MTF (Manual Transmission Fluid) and ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) refer to transmission oils for manual and automatic transmissions. ATF oils are enriched with significantly more additives and are subject to a regular change cycle. This means that the ATF filter element must also be replaced. MTF and ATF must not be mixed!
Quality oils from Hengst Filtration
Engine oils, transmission oils and coolants from Hengst Filtration meet the high quality standards of original equipment. The products are manufactured from 100 per cent high-quality base oils and additives. Thus, they are quality products that ensure the oil supply of engines under all operating conditions.
For pressure oil filters in particular, it makes sense to integrate additional functions. A classic example is the integration of a flow-optimised oil-water heat exchanger to keep the automatic transmission oil within the permissible temperature range even in borderline application areas.
Suction oil filters clean the transmission oil and thus offer effective protection of the pump. They can be integrated into the transmission oil pan.
