Car catches fire at Mallusk MOT centre


A car went up in flames earlier today at an MOT centre in Mallusk, County Antrim, causing disruption to vehicle testing services.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said the fire broke out at around 12.30pm today.

A spokesperson for the NIFRS said: “Firefighters were called to reports of a car on fire on Commercial Way, Mallusk. Firefighters used two hose reels to extinguish the fire.

“The cause of the fire was accidental and the incident was dealt with by 1.07pm.”

A Department for Infrastructure (DfI) spokesperson added: “A car fire at Mallusk test centre has resulted in some disruption to vehicle testing services this afternoon.

“The NIFRS attended the site and extinguished the fire and thankfully no one has been injured.

“The car has been removed from the test hall and we are assessing the damage to the centre and equipment.”
