BYD Shark to make European debut at Goodwood

Visitors to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK will be among the first in Europe to see the BYD Shark pick-up in the metal, when it makes its debut from 9th-12th July.

On show at Goodwood will be a 435PS Dual Mode off-road (DM-o) plug-in hybrid version of the Shark, offering a 0-100km/h acceleration of 5.7 seconds, an electric-only range of around 90km and a towing capacity of up to 2,500kg.

While no official Irish, or indeed British launch date has been confirmed, the Shark’s eventual arrival to this part of the world will mark BYD’s first move into the pick-up sector, joining the Chinese automaker’s already extensive range of SUV, hatchback and saloon models.

The Shark, also known in other markets as the Shark 6, has been on sale in Australia since last year where it is offered with the choice of turbocharged 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre petrol engines.
