Auto makers and suppliers call for shift in CO2 reduction framework
The European automotive manufacturers (ACEA) and suppliers (CLEPA) have written an open letter addressed to the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, which outlines their expectations for the upcoming Strategic Dialogue on the future of the European automotive industry.
The letter states that, since the adoption of the current CO2 reduction framework for road transport, the industrial, economic, and geopolitical realities have changed drastically. To achieve the EU’s climate ambitions, while also safeguarding Europe’s competitiveness, social cohesion and supply chain resilience, it says the strategy for the automotive sector must evolve accordingly.
Therefore, it emphasises that the Strategic Dialogue on 12th September is a timely chance to recalibrate EU policy for the automotive value chain in line with today’s shifting market, geopolitical, and economic realities.
The open letter is available to read in full HERE, and has been jointly-signed by Ola Källenius, President of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), CEO of Mercedes-Benz and Matthias Zink, President of the European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA) and CEO Powertrain and Chassis at Schaeffler.
