Audi ending five-cylinder engine production over Euro 7 rules
Audi is set to end production of its five-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine for Europe next year, after more than 50 years.
The German automaker said the potential cost of making the engine compliant with the upcoming new Euro 7 emissions regulations is too high, and as such will be phased out of production at its plant in Hungary by mid-2027.
The final Audi model in Europe to be powered by the five-cylinder engine will be the RS3 Competition Limited.
It is possible that Audi will continue to offer the engine in select markets outside Europe, such as North America, where emissions requirements are less stringent.
