Excise duty cuts on petrol and diesel could be extended
The Government will decide as early as next week whether or not to extend the excise duty reductions on petrol and diesel.
Following the outbreak of the war in Iran, the Government introduced excise cuts in April to reduce the excise on petrol and diesel by 27 and 32 cent respectively. This also included a reduction of the Nora Levy.
The current cuts are due to expire on 31st July. Speaking in the Dáil, Tánaiste Simon Harris said that there cannot be a “cliff edge” and a decision on excise cuts continuing, and the way they continue, will be taken in the coming days.
“We’ll assess the interim period between the end of July and the budget on what the appropriate decision is in the next week or two,” the Tánaiste said.
