County Car Rentals take the Sixt Rent-A-Car franchise


Germany’s largest vehicle rental company Sixt Rent a Car has appointed South County Self Drive Limited (trading as County Car Rentals) to operate the Sixt franchise for Ireland.  

Dun Laoghaire based County Car Rentals has been operating since 1952 under the ownership and management of the Loughran family and has grown to become one of Ireland’s leading independent car rental companies over the past 60 years.

As a result of the partnership, Sixt Rent a Car Ireland has created 11 new jobs at its head office in Dun Laoghaire and at Dublin Airport. It also has plans to recruit an additional 12 staff to work in reservations, customer service and administration as well rental agents over the next eight months.

As part of the partnership all rental offices and operations have been rebranded with a fresh new Sixt Rent a Car corporate imagery, which is very recognisable at 3,500 locations in 100 countries worldwide. Staff will also be attired in smart new black and orange Sixt uniform workwear.

The business is run by managing director Bernard Loughran and Mrs Kay Loughran is also a working director in the business.

The current company, South County Self Drive Limited (incorporated in 1979) trades as County Car Rentals. It register the business names ‘Sixt County Rent a Car’ and ‘Sixt Rent a Car’ on March 12th. of this year. The latest accounts (26/10/2011) for this company show that shareholders funds in 2010 increased from €998,000 to €1,009,000, whilst total assets increased from €1,315,000 to €1,683,000.
