Varta Automotive launches refreshed product portfolio

At Automechanika Frankfurt, Varta Automotive launched an updated product portfolio intended to help simplify the battery selection process and expand product offerings for growing market segments. The effort is backed by parent company Clarios, a world leader in low-voltage solutions for the automotive industry.

Colour-coded products
The new Varta product portfolio is organised by technology, making it easier for IAM partners to navigate the growing complexity of vehicle types. Each technology within the portfolio is now identified by a distinct label colour across all applications: SLI batteries (traditional flooded batteries; Starter, Lights, Ignition) are colour coded blue; EFB batteries (Enhanced Flooded Battery) silver and AGM batteries (Absorbent Glass Mat) feature a gold label. The new portfolio is a customer-focused solution that simplifies choices and saves valuable workshop time.

Better support
As the automotive industry rapidly evolves, new start-stop, hybrid and EV vehicles are presenting increased demands on their low voltage networks and batteries. To better serve these new vehicles, Varta will launch new EFB H9 and AGM H3 batteries. It claims these new products deliver superior performance in demanding conditions, to help ensure new vehicles operate efficiently and reliably.

Varta ProMotive updated
The heavy-duty segment is also undergoing a transformation, with Varta leading the charge. The merger of the ProMotive Super Heavy Duty and ProMotive Heavy-Duty lines, along with the introduction of new EFB A-type and AGM B-type products, is a strategic move to simplify the product offering while enhancing its relevance to today’s trucking industry.

As trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles increasingly rely on sophisticated low-voltage systems, the demand for reliable power solutions has never been greater. Varta says its AGM technology, which is now a cornerstone of the heavy-duty portfolio, is specifically designed to meet these demands. AGM batteries not only ensure that critical systems such as lights, brakes, and steering remain operational, even when the high-voltage system is down, but they also significantly reduce idling time – by up to 73 per cent according to TÜV Nord – leading to considerable savings in fuel costs and reductions in CO2 emissions. Varta says this makes its AGM batteries an essential component for any fleet looking to improve efficiency and sustainability.

New Li-Ion technology
Going off the grid doesn’t mean you don’t have to go without power or luxury amenities. Varta’s new premium lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery range, designed to meet the growing demands of the leisure market, particularly in deep-cycle applications like caravanning and marine use. These batteries represent a significant leap forward in technology, offering up to twice the usable capacity and over 3,000 cycles, all while reducing weight by approximately 45 per cent compared to traditional lead-acid batteries.

The new Li-Ion range is also equipped with advanced smart connectivity features, including Bluetooth and CAN bus communication, allowing users to monitor battery status in real-time and optimise performance across various applications. Furthermore, these Li-Ion batteries are built to withstand harsh conditions, such as winter camping or exposure to wet and humid environments, with IP67 protection ensuring reliable operation even in extreme conditions.

According to Varta, this launch underscores the company’s commitment to leading the market in innovation, providing customers with cutting-edge energy solutions that enhance their on-the-go lifestyles.

Clarios capabilities
Drivers in Europe, and even around the world, have trusted Varta batteries for more than 130 years. Varta says its ability to deliver for customers is expanding with investments made possible by Clarios. A recent €200 million investment by Clarios will increase AGM battery production in EMEA by 50 per cent by 2026. This effort will ensure workshops and consumers have access to the advanced batteries their start-stop, hybrid and EV vehicles demand.

Varta Batteries will be exhibiting at CV Workshop EXPO 2024, which takes place alongside the Auto Trade EXPO at the RDS in Dublin from 12th-13th October.
