UFI supplying Multitube filter for new Lamborghini Temerario
UFI Filters is supplying its Multitube engine air filter technology as original equipment in Lamborghini’s new Temerario hybrid supercar.
The Temerario represents an important turning point for Lamborghini because it marks the abandonment of the historic V10 engine, which the car maker previously favoured over the V8 engine, with its combination of two turbochargers and three electric motors.
The aspiration needs of such a refined machine require a technologically advanced engine air filtration system. According to UFI Filters, the Multitube airbox was chosen as it fulfils all the required specifications.
Giorgio Girondi, chairman of the UFI Group commented: “Temerario, Revuelto and Sián are just some of the examples of our partnership with Lamborghini. They demonstrate how the excellence of UFI technologies is chosen for the extreme performance of hypercars not only with traditional engines, but also with new hybrid engines. UFI Filters is ready for the future with solutions for all forms of mobility.”
The UFI Multitube uses a patented tubular structure instead of the traditional, panel-type engine air filter. The special shape of the filtering media, made of 100 per cent hydrophobic synthetic fibres, allows very high filtration performance of between 98.5 and 98.8 per cent.
Other special features of the Multitube are its geometric flexibility and smaller filter dimensions. In fact, the cartridge structure allows the tubes to be placed in different positions; whether in parallel, in series or to suit the different geometries, diameters and lengths required by the vehicle manufacturer and filter location.
The second feature of the Multitube relates to the space it takes up, which is reduced by up to 50 per cent compared to a conventional panel system, without affecting its filtration capabilities in any way. This in turn leads to a lighter filter, which is essential in high-performance cars such as the Lamborghini Temerario.
A further important aspect of the Multitube is the geometric shapes formed by its tubes. These make it possible to optimise the fluid dynamics of the incoming air, whose linear passage through the structure decreases the car’s drag.
The improved flow dynamics made it possible to position the engine air filter – which this time features a black filtering media for aesthetic reasons – in the wheel arch area of the Lamborghini Temerario; reinforcing the accurate aerodynamic study that concluded it is possible to obtain a very high vertical load, while dispensing with a large rear wing.
The air flow dynamics within the Multitube also minimise pressure and energy losses, guaranteeing an increase in heat engine power, while contributing to a reduction in fuel consumption and pollutant emissions.
The UFI Multitube also passed the DIN53438 test (ISO standard) which determines the degree of combustion of commercial materials, receiving the highest possible classification (F1).
