Toyota Ireland urges drivers to ‘FaceItDown’

As traffic volumes increase with the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, Toyota Ireland has returned with its ‘FaceItDown’ campaign. With the nation granted permission to travel freely throughout their county, Toyota Ireland is reminding drivers to FaceItDown and create a safer driving environment for all road users.

Toyota Ireland’s ‘FaceItDown’ app incentivises motorists to place their phone face down when driving in order to eradicate mobile phone distractions and ensure safer roads for all. For every kilometre driven with the app engaged and phones faced down, users can earn points which are redeemable against free hot beverages in Circle K, cheaper FBD car insurance and a number of parking incentives with QPark.

Non-Toyota owners do not need to feel excluded as the FaceItDown app is available to all drivers. With thousands more cars and cyclists taking to the roads, Toyota Ireland is offering double points for all essential journeys taken for the period between June 15 and July 10, 2020.

Steve Tormey, chief executive of Toyota Ireland commented: “With cars now being one of the safer forms of transport, it’s important that we remind people to remain safe while driving. Although it may be tempting for road users to text or check social media while on the road, it is estimated that drivers using a hand-held mobile device while driving are four times more likely to crash than drivers who are not. FaceItDown aims to encourage drivers to take more caution on the roads and create a safer driving environment for all Irish families. Stemming our brand promise, Built for a Better World, the app works to reward those who contribute to Ireland’s safer roads, and is available to all, even non Toyota owners.”

Since its launch in 2017, the innovative app, which was developed in Ireland by Toyota has recorded over 27 million kilometres driven in Ireland with phones faced down, resulting in safer driving conditions for all road users.

The Toyota FaceItDown app can be downloaded on the App Store and Google Play.
