Two families in the UK avoided a fatal accident when the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in their vehicles prevented a falling tree from crushing them.
Both families were coincidently travelling in Tesla Model X vehicles in opposite directions, when a 400-year-old oak tree in Dorset came crashing down without warning due to ‘Storm Dennis’.
One of the drivers, Laurence Sanderson, was travelling with his wife and three kids when the tree fell. He said the “autopilot kicked in and saved us”.
Tesla sensors detected the fallen tree before either driver could react, stopping both cars just in time, as the tree only crushed the front end of each car.
None of the nine people involved suffered any serious or fatal injuries.
