Team Ireland returns home from WorldSkills 2024 today

Last night (Sunday), Team Ireland secured five ‘Medallions of Excellence’ across five different categories in front of 65,000 spectators at the closing ceremony of WorldSkills 2024 at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon, France.

Alas, no luck in the Automobile Technology category this time around. Ireland’s excellent representative was Jamie Connick, from Co Wexford, who attended Limerick ETB and SETU. He is an apprentice automobile mechanic and his employer is JA Boland Wexford.

Michael O’Connor of the Team Ireland said: “Thank you Lyon, thank you WorldSkills 2024, thank you to all the Irish support that made the trip to Lyon to cheer on your family and friends. See you all again in Shanghai 2026.”

Team Ireland was made up of 17 competitors who last week faced off against more than 1,500 opponents from more than 71 countries and regions around the world, all demonstrating their skills across 62 skills areas. The Irish team competed in 17 different competitions.
