Somora and Yuasa backing Aron Taylor-Smith

Somora Motor Parts, one of Ireland’s leading automotive parts distributors with a nationwide network of over 400 customers, has announced a new partnership with Yuasa Battery and reigning BTCC Independent Champion, Aron Taylor-Smith.

This collaboration comes at a pivotal moment in Taylor-Smith’s career, as he joins the prestigious Toyota Gazoo Racing UK team for the highly anticipated 2025 season.

With the support of Somora Motor Parts, Taylor-Smith is set to build on his already impressive BTCC career, which includes four race wins, 22 podiums, and nearly 1,500 championship points across almost 300 race starts since his debut in 2011.

As part of the partnership, the Somora Motor Parts logo will be displayed on Taylor-Smith’s BTCC race helmet, while one of the company’s flagship product lines, Yuasa batteries, will feature prominently on his race suit.

With all BTCC races broadcast live on ITV4 and a record-breaking audience of over 20 million viewers in 2024, Somora Motor Parts says this collaboration offers unparalleled visibility for the company across the UK and Ireland.

Stephen Lawless, representing Somora Motor Parts, said: “Everyone at Somora has been a long-time fan of the BTCC, frequently traveling to support Aron over the years. To now be actively involved in his BTCC program is incredibly rewarding.

“Aron has created a platform that maximises our brand exposure, particularly in the Irish media, while also showcasing Yuasa Batteries—a key product line for us. We have a series of exciting activations planned with Aron throughout the season and look forward to seeing what he can achieve as part of Toyota Gazoo Racing UK.”

Taylor-Smith expressed his excitement about the collaboration: “The popularity of the BTCC continues to soar, and I am absolutely delighted to welcome Ireland’s leading automotive parts supplier into my 2025 campaign. It turns out that the team at Somora have been BTCC fans for years, supporting from the sidelines and celebrating my victories from afar!

“I love when partnerships like this come together—it transforms into a passion project for everyone involved. I can’t wait to give them an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the BTCC.”

Taylor-Smith joins Speedworks Motorsport, home to Toyota Gazoo Racing UK, following an exceptional 2024 season that saw him claim the Independents’ Championship title with 20 class victories and two outright podium finishes. His consistency saw him become the only driver to score points in all 30 races.

His reward is a coveted seat in the manufacturer-backed Toyota Corolla GR Sport, one of the BTCC’s most successful modern touring cars, boasting 17 race wins, 30 additional podiums, five pole positions, and 10 fastest laps since its debut in 2019.

The 2025 BTCC season kicks off on 27th April at Donington Park.
