Shelbourne Motors opens its second Renault dealership

The representation of Groupe Renault in Northern Ireland has been significantly strengthened following the opening of a brand new, purpose-built dealership by existing franchise partner Shelbourne Motors.

The new Newry facility complements the family-owned automotive group’s existing Groupe Renault dealership in Portadown. It marks the official return of a Renault dealership to the Newry and Mourne area for the first time in 15 years.

Housed in a purpose-built, 50,000 sq ft complex that represents a £5 million investment by Shelbourne Motors, the new dealership is the latest development in the group’s 46-year history and follows the 2003 opening of its original Groupe Renault dealership in Portadown. The entire site took one year to build, being constructed from the ground-up, and occupies a prominent, highly-visible position adjacent to the A28.

The ongoing success of its existing Groupe Renault dealership, coupled with the high Renault vehicle parc in the area and the variety of the brand’s model ranges, was a key factor in Shelbourne Motors’ decision to open the state-of-the-art Newry facility. Its opening takes the number of Groupe Renault UK dealerships to nearly 150.

At the heart of the new dealership is a contemporary eight-car showroom, which includes a welcoming, well-appointed customer lounge and the innovative ‘brand bar’ where visitors can configure their ideal Renault or Dacia online. After sales customers benefit from a cutting-edge 28-bay workshop staffed by manufacturer-trained technicians, plus the highly-convenient drive-in service bay where they can drop off their vehicle in a designated area below the dealership and then take an escalator to the main showroom.

Outside, there is a sizeable display of hand-picked approved used vehicles and electric vehicle charging facilities, the latter a result of the ever-increasing number of Shelbourne Motors customers who are purchasing or expressing an interest in the Renault range of EVs.

Paul Ward, director of Shelbourne Motors said: “Opening a Groupe Renault dealership in Newry was a very straightforward decision for us. Our Portadown dealership has served customers in the area for many years, but we felt that the area really deserved its own dealership. We had a very strong 2018 and as part of our own expansion plans it was important for us to reinvest in our operation and provide our customers with an even better experience.

“Being a partner of Groupe Renault has also worked very well for us as a business, the variety, strength and evolvement of its model ranges enabling us to offer our customers a great choice, whether they are considering an SUV, family car, supermini or electric vehicle. With cars such as the new Clio and forthcoming, longer-range all-electric Zoe, plus the growing popularity of the great value Dacia range, we are expecting to be even busier.”
