Oliphant continues to race with Philips automotive lighting

Lumileds, founded by Philips, has launched an expanded partnership with rising sportscar star Tom Oliphant for his challenge for championship honours in the 2017 Porsche Carrera Cup GB.

Lumileds with their automotive lighting brand Philips, one of the world’s largest suppliers of top quality lighting products to the automotive industry and the aftermarket, have renewed their partnership with Porsche driver Tom Oliphant with a strengthened programme for the new season, continuing the exciting link that was formed mid-way through Tom’s 2016 campaign.

Alongside headline branding on his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car for the 2017 season, which will compete across the UK as well as in support of the iconic Le Mans 24 Hours race, the partnership will also see Oliphant working with the Philips brand on new marketing and promotional opportunities.

Oliphant will once again be competing with the most successful team in Carrera Cup GB history Redline Racing, with a title challenge in his sights after an impressive debut season that featured fifteen top six finishes in sixteen races and a breakthrough podium finish at Silverstone.

The deal sees the leading vehicle lighting brand supporting the car as both sponsor and supplier, with Philips automotive products being extensively used by the team – both in their workshops and on event.

Steven Zimmer, Vice President Aftermarket Sales Lumileds comments, “Tom and his winning team share our core values of Innovation, Quality, Collaboration and always aiming to stay on top in everything we do.”

“As a company, Lumileds is proud of having finalised this partnership for 2017,” explains Björn Reich Husberg, Managing Director at Lumileds Sweden – responsible for the Nordic and UK markets. “We are delighted to support Tom and the Philips brand not only in the UK, but in all of our national operating companies. Tom is a great ambassador for our products and we wish him every success in taking the number one position in 2017.”

Richard Armstrong, Business Development Manager, Lumileds UK adds, “We are absolutely delighted to be continuing our partnership with Tom. His qualifications mean that he understands Philips automotive lighting products. He’s also highly successful on the track – the perfect combination to be the face and voice of the Philips brand on rally and race tracks.”
The Carrera Cup GB, runs as part of the Britain’s most popular car racing series programme, the BTCC, which attracts both huge audiences at the races – averaging more than 30,000 per round. It is also broadcast live on ITV4, with highlight shows on satellite TV.

“I’m really pleased to bring Philips brand on-board for the 2017 Porsche Carrera Cup GB season,” Tom Oliphant enthuses. “I believe we’ve got a really exciting season ahead; there are going to be some great promotions and opportunities for Lumileds and their Philips automotive lighting customers worldwide.

“Both Lumileds and myself see this as the start of a long and fruitful partnership that we hope will take both of us to the next level, and I’m really looking forward to the season ahead working with them.”

After two meetings of the series, Tom is currently 3rd in the championship standings.
Next round: Oulton Park over the weekend of the 19th- 21st May.
