Four months, 42,000 kilometres, 30 countries, in one go. All sorts of different road conditions and climatic zones. The aim says Volkswagen is to find extraordinary craftsmen in each and every country. To discover what constantly drives them on to perfection.

The tour, called ‘Crafter2Craftsmen’, starts in Hannover, the headquarters of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand. From here it’s off to the Hannover coffee-making business of Andreas Berndt (56). He roasts single-origin coffee and coffee blends, paying special attention to careful processing. His work as a master roaster fills him with pride, as is quickly evident. He learned his trade at roasting houses all over Europe.

Todays stop in Ireland is to visit Craftsmen Ronan and Conor McGarvey of Donegal Pens on Friday 2nd. of December at their workshop at Loughanure, County Donegal. All pens are individually hand crafted and each pen is unique, receiving personal attention from start to finish and is a gift to treasure.

The next two stops for the Crafter will be France and Spain. Always in search of passionate and some of the most unorthodox craftsmen in Europe, Morocco and Iceland: be it a bagpipe maker in Scotland, windmill restorer in the Netherlands, the Royal Danish flower supplier or a blacksmith making axes in Sweden – what unites them all is a passion for perfection. Over the coming months, the new Crafter – covering a distance approximately equivalent to the Earth’s circumference – will be going through this quality check from the outset.

The new Crafter has been tailored to the needs and requirements of its diverse user groups like never before. The result: a commercial vehicle that is more practical, cost-efficient and innovative than ever – and thus equal to all the challenges of everyday life in the manual trades.

Carsten Sass, Head of Sales Germany: “We developed the new Crafter in close collaboration with its target groups and paid particular attention to quality. Our aim now with Crafter2Craftsmen is to show how reliable the new Crafter is and that it fits in perfectly into the operations of even the most out-of-the-ordinary craftsman.”

Alan Bateson, Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Ireland: The new Crafter, which is more economical and practical than ever before, and which was voted the ‘International Van of the Year 2017’ will be the perfect vehicle to take this trip across Europe. We are delighted to see the Crafter2Craftsmen crew take in a visit to Ireland where we will learn more about Donegal Pens trade.

Volkswagen says that a special feature of the tour is that the Crafter’s entire journey can be continually followed via social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter and on www.crafter2craftsmen.com. Over 42,000 kilometres, 30 countries in one go. The new Crafter is underlining in this way its credentials as a reliable vehicle for every job – the everyday and the unusual alike.
