MAN Trucks uses YouTube for driver training

MAN Truck & Bus has started using the YouTube video platform to provide guidance and best practice videos for its drivers.

Produced as a supplement to the traditional printed operator’s manual, MAN has already produced three videos, dealing with the correct adjustment of the driver’s seat, the function of Emergency Brake Assist and the operation of MAN EfficientCruise with EfficientRoll.

The videos, called “Driving Professionals”, were produced with the assistance of German TV presenter Philipp Bächstädt and MAN ProfiDrive trainer Thorsten Helbig, to provide a high level of instruction whilst ensuring they are enjoyable to watch. YouTube was chosen as the method of distribution to allow the easiest possible access for both professionals and interested enthusiasts.

“The better drivers understand how the technology and assistants work on MAN and NEOPLAN buses and how they are served by them, the safer they are and the more efficient they are on the road. This also increases acceptance of these systems, so we are keen to help advance drivers’ skills,” says Rudi Kuchta, Head of Sales Bus at MAN Truck & Bus. “The medium of film is a highly suitable way to present the wide range of topics in a short, entertaining and vivid style, as well as conveying relevant information.”
