ITIA and RSA urge motorists to check their tyres

The Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA) and the Road Safety Authority (RSA) are working closely to get motorists to check their tyres during National Road Safety Week, which gets underway today, October 8.

ITIA members nationwide are offering Free Tyre Safety Checks to anyone visiting their outlet. They will also give out free safety packs to those availing of the safety checks, while stocks last.

The free tyre safety check packs, will help motorists to chck the tread depth on their tyres, tyre pressure and overall condition of their tyres to make sure they are suitable to cope with the conditions on the roads this winter.

Kevin Farrell, President ITIA explained: “We have a good network of members taking part in Road Safety Week and I would encourage all motorists to go to their local outlet and have their tyres checked. It could make the difference in keeping you and your loved ones safe on our roads this winter.”

“The safety packs include a tyre tread depth guide and we encourage all motorists to regularly check their tyres. The legal limit for tread depth is 1.6mm but the RSA recommends you consider changing your tyres at 3mm. Also look for any damage on your tyres and rims from potholes and kerbs.”

He concluded: “With winter fast approaching this is an ideal time to have your tyres checked by a professional. Get ready for winter and visit your local ITIA tyre outlet and have you tyres checked today.
