Impressive BYD to launch here next week

As previously reported here back in February, the world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer, BYD announced the appointment of Motor Distributors Limited (MDL), a leading Irish motor vehicles distributor as its National Dealer+ Partner.

This status designation assigned official distribution, sales and aftersales services to MDL in the Republic of Ireland. Separately, Lookers through Charles Hurst will have a BYD dealership in Belfast.

Motor Distributors Limited will introduce the BYD brand and what promises to be an ‘inspiring’ range of electric passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in 2023 beginning with the BYD Atto 3 C-Segment SUV model next week. More on that then.

First to arrive – the BYD Atto 3 C-Segment SUV model.

BYD has confirmed that it will have a dealer network in the UK and Ireland as opposed to a direct sales model. MDL will “establish a dealer network in Ireland” whose purpose will be to provide “localised sales and aftersales services” to BYD customers across the country.

Introducing two new full-electric cars on the way
BYD boasts that it is setting new levels of electric mobility with its new ‘Dolphin’ C-segment hatchback (due here in August/September) and the its stunning ‘Seal’ D-segment sedan. The BYD Seal is expected here in September or October.

The new Dolphin C-segment hatchback (due here in August/September) and ‘Seal’ D-segment sedan to follow about a month later.

Both will be available with highly efficient BYD Blade Batteries. The Dolphin promises a WLTP combined range of 427km and BYD Seal with a claimed combined WLTP range of 570km (2WD) and 520km (AWD).

BYD tells us that both the Dolphin and the Seal utilise the state-of-the-art e-Platform 3.0 as standard, with the BYD Seal benefiting from advanced Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology. The Seal is a likely rival for the Tesla Model 3,

Sales of the Dolphin have already started in China, but the European version of the Dolphin will be 190 mm longer (4,290 mm) than the version already on sale in China. The European version of the BYD Dolphin will have a 2,700 mm wheelbase. It is on the same BYD 3.0 platform as the Atto 3.
