Ford to cut 4,000 jobs across Europe

Ford is set to reduce its European workforce by 4,000 positions by the end of 2027, with Germany and the UK said to be the most affected regions.

The American automaker said the move is part of a wider cost-cutting strategy, following a drop in electric vehicle sales.

Most of the job losses will be at its Cologne plant in Germany, with redundancies also expected to occur across admin, commercial and product development roles in the UK. Employees at Ford’s plants in Dagenham and Halewood will be unaffected.

Lisa Brankin, managing director of Ford of Britain and Ireland, said the automaker hopes to make most of job cuts through voluntary redundancy.

“Making this announcement isn’t something that anybody wants to do, and I appreciate it will have a very significant impact on our employees,” she said. “It’s not the news anyone wants to hear at any time. So our aim is to try to deliver this through voluntary redundancy.”
