Oil dipsticks are a traditional way to quickly and easily test the oil level in your vehicle. The dipstick is marked with minimum and maximum guidelines and inserted into the oil reservoir. To check the level, the dipstick is removed, cleaned and placed back into the reservoir before immediately removing it again. The level of the oil in the reservoir marks the dipstick, providing a simple way to check if the level needs filling.
