Citroen Ami launched for less than €10k

Citroen Ireland has finally revealed the price of the all-electric Ami, the company’s tiny two-seater quadricycle. Launching at a price of €9,990, the Citroen Ami is available to test drive now at selected dealerships nationwide.

The Citroen Ami is powered by a 5.5kWh battery with a claimed range of up to 75km, and can be charged in just four hours via the supplied type 2 charging adapter which can be neatly tucked away in the passenger door frame.

It is 2.41m long, 1.39m wide with a height of 1.52m, and is usable as both a two-seater or cargo. With a maximum speed of 45km/h, Citroen says the Ami is ideal for inner city driving.

Despite being classed as a quadricycle, the Ami exceeds that of an AM licence type in Ireland, therefore it requires a standard car licence or category B licence type. The Ami will also require insurance and motor tax when taking to Irish roads.

Citroen is launching two versions of the Ami – just the ‘Ami’ and the Ami ‘Peps’, which ups the price to €10,790. The former is described by Citroen as the “simplest expression” of the Ami, and is primed for the three colour packs available as accessories – grey, blue and orange. The base colour at launch is a dark brown ‘Night Sepia’.

These colour packs are made for self-installation and incorporate functional and decorative items such as wheel trims, exterior colour stickers, interior storage trays, mats, dashboard hook, door storage nets, interior separation net, smartphone clip, Citroen Switch to control a smartphone and DAT@MI dongle for connection to the MyCitroen app. Live radio streaming, Waze, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Apple Maps, Google Maps and more are all available.

All three colour packs will be sold as accessories at €715 each and will be available from Citroen dealerships nationwide.

The ‘Peps’ version of the Ami adds an expressive front end with a black graphic band under the windshield animated by sharp yellow horizontal stickers, as well as black headlight surrounds. There’s also a rear spoiler, four floral-design wheel covers with white decorations, two custode stickers, and two lower door stickers. The number 2 sticker on the door is a nod to the number found on race cars. All accessories found on the colour packs are pre-installed on the Peps version.

According to Citroen, the Ami rewrites the rulebook with its size, shape and novel graphic approach. The Ami benefits from the large glass surface area of the windscreen, panoramic roof, side windows and rear window. The vehicle is flanked by rounded, manually adjustable exterior mirrors.

Meanwhile, the wide doors are completely identical on the right and left and open in the opposite direction – rear-hinged on the driver’s side to benefit from better on-board accessibility and increased comfort. The front and rear bumpers are also mirrored at the front and rear, allowing less costs when it comes to repair.

In a nod to Citroen’s history, the side windows open by manually tilting upwards like the original Citroen 2CV. Inside the passenger compartment, Citroen says the two-seat layout offers a real sense of space and ease of movement to each occupant, especially in shoulder width, legroom and headroom. In addition to a storage recess at the passenger’s feet, which Citroen says can fit a cabin-sized suitcase, the designers have also created another storage area behind both seats.

Elsewhere, Citroen Ireland will be offering the ‘My Cargo Kit’ as an after-sale modular kit, which gives the option of turning the Ami into a small delivery vehicle. Citroen says this kit deploys very easily in a few movements, and allows loading up to 200 litres under the storage net, with a total volume of 340 litres throughout the vehicle. The kit’s occluding net and storage panels can be folded and placed behind the seat in a dedicated pouch at any time to continue a journey with two people.

Citroen boasts that the Ami has a real advantage for its occupants; a level of protection greater than that offered by two- or three-wheeled vehicles and greater independence and comfort than public transportation. Its closed and heated passenger compartment provides protection and comfort on board when there is bad weather.
