Chinese-built DFSK vans return to the UK

A range of Chinese-built microvans is set to return to the UK under a new importer, it was announced at the CV Show.

Vehicle Import & Distribution Ltd, part of Bassadone Automotive, will import the DFSK C-Series vans from this summer. Since 2011, the company has also imported SsangYong 4x4s and LCVs in to the UK under the guise of SsangYong Motor UK Ltd.

The launch of the new company will be overseen by Doug Lincoln, Operations Director. The company will have its head office in Luton, Bedfordshire, and will establish its own import reception and preparation centre at Portbury Docks, near Bristol.

The range, which will go on sale this summer, will initially comprise four models.  The C31 single cab minitruck, C32 double cab minitruck, C35 panel van, and the C37 minivan.  UK prices have yet to be announced, but are expected to start from below £10,000.

All DFSK vehicles meet the latest emissions requirements, and are powered by 1,500cc Euro 6 petrol engines.

Doug Lincoln said, “We believe there is a huge opportunity for DFSK in the UK.  From small independent businesses through to local authorities, cost-saving and value-for-money is today’s mantra. Why pay more when a DFSK delivers such a great return on investment?”

“We particularly see opportunities in metropolitan areas where the vehicles’ compact size, manoeuvrability and economical petrol engines are ideal for short, stop-start urban journeys.”

From launch, there will be a network of service centres nationwide, with retail outlets located strategically.

“Good and well-priced aftersales service is vital in this sector of the market,” he added.  “We want to get that right and build customer confidence in the product and servicing before pushing for volume sales.”
