Type approval system for new light goods vehicles updated

The Road Safety Authority has issued an EU Type Approval N1 update on certification from 29th. April this year. As part of the system of EU type approval, vehicles and trailers must meet certain safety and environmental standards before being sold or first used on Irish roads.

Finlay Motor Group launches Light Up Kildare Campaign
The Finlay Motor Group has just launched its “Light-up Kildare Campaign” which is aimed at improving road safety in the Kildare area. Over the next two weeks Finlay Motor Group is going to fit 500 bulbs free of charge to any car or van that comes into its premises in either Newbridge or Naas.

2012 road deaths is lowest on record
Provisional road casualty figures for 2012 show that a total of 161 people tragically lost their lives on Irish roads in 2012, 25 fewer than lasy year and 51 fewer deaths compared to 2010 when 212 people lost their lives on the roads.

High number of car breakdowns expected as motorists return to work
Irish motorists are being warned that today, Wednesday, January 2nd is likely to be busiest day of 2013 for roadside assistance calls, with flat batteries expected to be the single biggest cause, as people who haven’t used their cars for many days, return to work after the Christmas break.

Euro NCAP tests the Safety of Business and Family Vans

Euro NCAP has crash tested some of Europe’s best-selling business and family vans using protocols that are more true-to-life than the current legal tests for these van-based vehicles. The safety organisation is calling on manufacturers to offer these vehicles with higher levels of safety equipment and for legislators to review their lenient legal safety requirements.

Miss-fueling incidents up slightly in 2012 says AA

Incidents of motorists accidentally putting the wrong fuel type in their cars would appear to have increased slightly this year according to the AA’s annual breakdown review, their yearly analysis of breakdowns attended by their patrols.
