A single vehicle accident which occurred on the M50 last weekend may have been caused by bald tyres, Gardaí have said.
The driver of a rear-wheel drive Mercedes-Benz car lost control on a wet surface and ended up on the central medium.
Gardaí from the Stepaside Roads Policing Unit attended the scene and discovered both of the vehicle’s rear tyres were bald.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and fixed charge penalty notices were issued to the driver, Gardaí add.
No injuries were reported.
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) states that by law, it is a driver’s responsibility to make sure that their vehicle meets legal requirements and is in a roadworthy condition at all times.

If you are convicted of the offence of driving with dangerous tyres, you could be fined up to €2,500, or receive a 3-month prison sentence, or both.
You will also have five penalty points on your licence on conviction.
