Skoda Fabia Combi (Estate) arrives

Skoda have added to their product offering with the arrival of the first new model of 2008, their new Fabia Combi estate Available in four levels of trim and specifications - Classic, Ambiente, Elegance and Sport - the new Combi estate features many of the hallmarks of the recently introduced Fabia Hatchback. Of particular interest to motorists in light of proposed VRT changes is its low ‘A’ emissions rating. This feature is particularly evident in what will be the popular 1.4-litre TDI 80bhp unit with its low 120g/km emissions.
In terms of its overall appearance, it has been given an elegantly rounded rear with a wide window and overhead spoiler which combine to form a most impressive appearance when viewed from behind. Engine choice consists of three petrol and three diesel engines. Petrol models are a 3-cylinder 1.2-litre 70 bhp 12 valve 5-speed version beginning at €15,300 (excluding delivery and related charges); a 4-cylinder 1.4-litre 86 bhp 16 valve varsion from €15,710 and a 4-cylinder, 1.6-litre 105 bhp 16 valve, 5-speed version from €17,400.
Diesel models, all with 5-speed transmission, consist of a 1.4-litre TDI PD 70 bhp 3-cylinder unit beginning at €17,700, a 1.4-litre TDI PD 80 bhp 3-cylinder unit from €18,500 and a 1.9-litre TDI PD 105 bhp 4-cylinder version from €21,110. Boot volume of 406 litres is 180 litres larger than the Fabia Hatchback and 54 litres greater than the previous Combi estate. This expands to 1,460 litres when rear seats are folded. A loading length of 1.62 metres means bulky items can be carried easily.
With class-leading rear head and leg space, its features up to six airbags, ABS, ASR, MSR, seat belt tensioners, and side impact protection. Also included in the package is a host of clever ideas of a kind we have come to expect from Skoda such as numerous little storage features and fittings.
Optional extras include tyre pressure monitoring, ESP and steering wheel controls for radio.
